The evening backyard in early summer time glows with spires of creamy, bell-shaped blossoms.
‘Vivid Edge’ yucca sends up these towers of flowers, excellent for a moonlight backyard.
Paleleaf yucca (Y. pallida) will get in on the act too, sending up its personal tall flower spike over powder-blue leaves.
‘Fireworks’ gomphrena and ‘Senorita Rosalita’ cleome add pinks to the scene, with the paler cleome displaying up higher at nightfall.
Yellow Hesperaloe parviflora provides a bit moonshine to the backyard after darkish. An uplight on the large Yucca rostrata offers it nighttime drama.

‘Vivid Edge’ yucca flowers appear to glow below string lights.
Variegated squid agave (Agave bracteosa ‘Monterrey Frost’) has a creamy-white leaf edge that exhibits up effectively when the solar goes down.
Out entrance, an uplight illuminates a Japanese maple’s filigreed cover. On the patio’s edge, a datura opens a single aromatic flower.

An older, bigger datura sprawls alongside the driveway. Just lately there have been a dozen or so furled trumpets that spiraled open earlier than my eyes, releasing their candy perfume to the evening air.
